Venice

Day 1

After landing in Venice we took the bus to our hotel and laid down for a brief nap before heading out because we were still a little thrown off because of the time change.

Later we went into the city and started to make our way through the streets of Venice, which was like walking through a labyrinth.  The walkways and waterways are narrow and the buildings are tall, so it was easy to get disorientated.  We eventually arrived at our first stop, the Peggy Guggenheim Museum.  It was a smaller museum set in the art owner's former home.

Once we finished walking through the museum it was getting late and everything started to close, so we just walked the streets stopping only to eat gelatos and other snacks.  We had a fun time getting lost, it seemed like almost everywhere we turned there was a dead end and then once it got dark it made navigating our way even more difficult.  Eventually, we made it back to our hotel.

Day 2

Our first stop of the day was Saint Mark's Basilica and we found the interior to be much more interesting than the exterior.  There were numerous gilded mosaics depicting scenes from the New Testament and they immediately catch your eye when you enter.

It didn't take as long to tour the basilica as was we thought, so after leaving we took our time walking to our next stop, St. Mary of the Friars.  It is a gothic church that was entirely built of brick in the 14th century and houses a Titian painting, and also Titian himself.

After touring the church we stopped for a panini and listened to an older gentleman sing while we feed the birds.  We then continued walking around without any real plan.  We walked over Rialto Bridge, visited some small shops, ate more gelato, and stopped for dinner where we each had our own pizza.

We found the second day was easier to walk the streets then the first day.  We made it back to our hotel just before dark which was perfect because it gave us enough time to go to the store to buy some food.
